Malaysian palm oil futures closed up the 50 ringgit limit mainly on the weakness of the ringgit against the dollar, but the increase was not fully reflected on the physical market. "Under normal circumstances, with the KLCE limit up, I would expect this market to be on fire but it is only the ringgit which is driving the futures higher - in dollar terms the physical price has hardly changed," said one trader. Underlying demand kept soft oils steady, but no trading was reported. Early gains in coconut oil were trimmed towards the close following a burst of dealer trading. At the close of business crude palm oil cif Europe was $2.50 up after Feb traded at $555 a tonne cif. In the products sector offers were $2.50 down to unchanged with no business reported. Coconut oil closed $7.50 to $2.50 up after Oct/Nov traded at $605 and $607.50 a tonne cif. Palmkernel oil was neglected with sellers $5 up. In the soft oil sector Dutch soy oil closed 0.50 guilders up to unchanged, but no business was reported. Rape oil was unquoted for most of the day, but at the close some sellers came out with offers four to 1.25 guilders above Friday's levels. However, some players disputed an offer of 119.50 guilders for Feb/Apr rape oil, but others confirmed the offer was there at the close.
