The USDA said in its report that strong global demand was expected to reduce world vegetable oil supplies in 1997/98 to their lowest level in 12 years, forecasting world vegetable oil stocks to total just 6.59 million tonnes at the end of 1997/98, down from last month's forecast of 6.78 million. At the end of the morning session the palm oil sector was the only sector to attract any trade, with selling levels $2.50 to $7.50 per tonne above Friday's close in Europe. Crude palm oil traded Nov at $542.50 and Jan/Mar at $555/557.50, RBD oil fetched $525 for Oct and Dec respectively, while palm olein saw $555 paid for Nov. Lauric oils posted gains mostly in the region of $10 to $12.50 per tonne, while the soft oils saw gains of 1.75 to 2.50 guilders per 100 kilos.
