Malaysian futures closed lower as technical selling and profit-taking emerged and as the ringgit rallied against the dollar. Traders said currency remained the dominant factor, so prices would rise should the ringgit fall again. Palm oil closed with sellers unchanged from midday. "People are waiting to see what happens next on the Malaysian markets before they make a move," said one trader. Coconut oil attracted active trading during the afternoon with general buying interest seen. "We seen some buying on the dip in the market, but the tone remains firm," said one trader. Soft oils were mixed, attracting only light trading. At the close crude palm oil cif Europe was $7.50 to $5 down while products were $10 to $2.50 lower with no further business reported. Coconut oil closed $5 to $10 down after Oct/Nov traded at $625 and $630, Dec/Jan at $637.50 and $640, Jan/Feb at $645 and $650 and Feb/Mar at $650 a tonne cif. Palmkernel oil closed with offers $5 down to unchanged. Dutch soyoil closed 0.25 guilders down to 0.50 guilders up after Nov/Jan traded at 112 and Feb at 110.50 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Rape oil was 0.75 guilders up to unchanged after Oct traded at 113.50, Nov/Jan at 113.50 and Feb/Apr at 111.50 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill.
