Benchmark December fell $19 a tonne to $1,706, ending toward the bottom of its $1,739-$1,704 range. March fell $18 to $1,737. Prices initially rallied this morning on follow-through speculative buying to Tuesday's strong showing, but the market swiftly met with resistance from origin sellers. Sell stops were triggered below $1,710, a key breakout point during Tuesday's rally. Traders said views that yesterday's chart-driven run-up may have been overdone gave impetus to the selloff. Uncertainty over the size of this year's cocoa harvest and worries about the potential impact of El Nino have underpinned prices in recent months, but fresh crop news has been scarce in the past several days. "The market is jittery," said one broker. "It ran into some pretty decent producer selling today, and that was the reason why we couldn't hold the gains we posted early in the day. Technically, a key support area awaited at $1,698-1,693 basis the December contract, a chart gap formed at the outset Tuesday. Resistance was put at $1,760.
