After an early speculator-fueled rally, prices barely budged for the remainder of the session. "It looks like we're just range trading for now," said one dealer, adding: "We closed right where we were due this morning." December futures ended at $1,693, trading from $1,680 to $1,695. Second-position March also gained $16 to settle at $1,722, with the remaining months rising $13 to $18. The market displayed little reaction to the Dutch third-quarter cocoa grind, which rose 2.28 percent against the same period a year earlier, to 101,817 tonnes. U.K. grind numbers are expected this Friday, followed by Germany's results on Monday and the U.S. later this month. Chartists said the market's climb toward the upper range of its recent trading band sent a constructive signal, but December was unlikely to stage a breakout unless new fundamentals emerged. Major resistance as eyed at $1,740, with a near-term objective at $1,710 basis December. To the downside, support was pegged at $1,645 and $1,611.
