Prices were supported by a 35 ringgit jump in Malaysian futures at the close of business following figures from the Palm Oil Registration and Licensing Authority (PORLA) and cargo surveyor SGS. Traders in Europe said both sets of data were constructive for the market. PORLA put end-August palm oil output at 859,236 tonnes, up 3.11 percent from end-July. Exports were 658,412 tonnes against 735,557 in July while stocks were estimated at 808,469 tonnes, below the 865,000 forecast by private forecaster Ivan Wong, but 5.04 percent above the end-July figure. Later, cargo surveyor SGS released its export numbers for the 1-15 September period, putting them at 388,986 against 312,757 in August 1-15. "The SGS figures look good and the fact the stocks are below those forecast by Wong has given people enough reason to be bullish," said one trader. The continuing weakness of the ringgit against the dollar and talk that India would be tendering gave further support. Traders said India's State Trading Corp (STC) was expected to be in the market again as it builds up stocks ahead of the Indian festival of light, Deepavali, in November. El Nino continues to worry players on the coconut oil market despite good suppliers at origin. "Fundamentally there is nothing to worry about at the moment but buyers are covering themselves for the first quarter of next year," said one trader. Higher Chicago soy oil futures had no impact on soft oils where the firmer guilder against the dollar wiped out any increase. At the close crude palm oil cif Europe was $7.50 up after Sep traded at $517.50 and Oct/Dec at $512.50 a tonne cif. Products finished $5 higher with additional trades reported in Sep olein at $527.50, and Oct and Nov/Dec at $530 a tonne fob Malaysian ports. Coconut oil finished $10 to $7.50 higher after Nov/Dec at $625 and Dec/Jan at $625 and $630 a tonne cif. Palmkernel oil was neglected and closed $12.50 to $1.50 lower. Dutch soy oil ended a tradeless session 0.50 to two guilders down while rape oil was 1.50 to one guilder lower after Sep traded at 107 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill.
