Chicago futures opened lower on forecasts of nearly ideal crop weather in the U.S. midwest. Earlier, falling Malaysian palm oil prices following a further rally by the ringgit against the dollar had made little impression on prices in Europe. Traders said falling futures prices on the KLCE had been offset by the higher ringgit. But by the close crude palm oil was $2.50 a tonne down while products were unchanged to $2.50 lower. Lauric oil sellers finished the day unchanged with no buyers in sight. Among soft oils soy oil closed 0.50 guilders down while Dutch/EU rape oil was 1.25 guilders lower after Nov/Jan traded at 108.25 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill.
