Prices lingered near unchanged for much of the day, but a late round of speculative selling pushed the market to the session lows ahead of the close. But trading volume was exceedingly light, reaching only 1,641 lots on the day. Benchmark March futures fell $11 a tonne to close at $1,630, having traded from $1,629 to $1,641. The back months eased between $10 and $17. The market was well within its key technical targets, seen at $1,608 and $1,660 in the March contract. The CSCE will be closed on Thursday and Friday in observance of the New Year's holiday. The CFTC's bi-weekly Commitment of Traders data will be delayed one day due to the holiday, with the next report due out on Monday, January 5. 021140 MET jan 98
