Benchmark March futures fell $14 a tonne on the day, settling at $1,693, after trading between $1,710 and $1,685. The back months also fell $14, with the May contract ending at $1,720. Traders said that momentum from Tuesday's sharp pullback spilled over into today's session. "There was some follow-through on yesterday's poor performance," said one trader. Cocoa prices have fallen by $69 per tonne in the past two sessions, erasing about one-third of the gains accrued as prices raced to the highest level in more than five months. Despite the day's volatile price activity, volume was fairly light, reaching an estimated 5,042 lots by the close. 181053 MET dec 97
