But the failure to break through the low for the move at $1,559 a tonne could signal a short-covering rally. March cocoa ended at $1,588 a tonne, up $10, after trading from $1,578 to $1,593. Spot December ended up the same at $1,558. "The funds drove this thing lower today," one commission house broker said. "There were some locals that were buyers on the opening. We went down early on some arbitrage selling. After that, the locals gave it all back." Estimated volume totaled 2,529 lots at 1300 EST. "The market looks like it wants to form a base at these levels," the broker said. "We failed to make new lows today, which could prompt some buying tomorrow." Key resistance was pegged at $1,593 for March cocoa. Technicians noted that an upward trendline is forming on the March weekly chart, starting at the June 6 low of $1,515, putting key support at Wednesday's low of $1,559. "I think we're going to get some kind of upward correction," said one trader. "It doesn't feel like there's a lot of selling in the market. And industry demand is pretty good."
