In a session marked by exceedingly thin turnover, light speculative selling kept prices under pressure for most of the day. The selling intensified just before the close, as commodity funds moved to unload long positions. "A fund came in in the late afternoon and there was no buying to hold it," said one trader. Benchmark March futures fell $25 per tonne on the day to $1,625, trading from $1,624 to $1,648. Second-position May fell $24 to $1,658, and the back months closed between $18 and $24 lower. The day's volume was estimated at 1,584 lots. Technically, sell stops were reportedly well placed beneath last week's low of $1,616 in March, followed by $1,611.
