European veg oils follow Chicago lower at close
LONDON, Nov 19 (Reuters) - European vegetable oil prices
were drifting lower towards the close of business on Wednesday
following the easier opening in Chicago.
News that Egypt had bought a total of 71,800 tonnes of
vegetable oils at its tender on November 18 had little impact on
prices.
Egypt bought a total of 44,500 tonnes of sunflower oil
between $686.50 and $692 a tonne c and f, 4,800 tonnes of
cottonseed oil between $684.90 and $692 a tonne c and f and
7,500 tonnes of soy oil at $692 a tonne c and f all for December
arrival.
It also bought 10,000 tonnes of RBD palm oil for January
arrival at $564 a tonne c and f from FELDA and 5,000 tonnes of
coconut oil at $664 a tonne c and f for early January arrival
from Wilmar.
At the close of business Dutch soy oil was three to 1.50
guilders down after Feb/Apr traded at 122 and 121 guilders a 100
kilos fob ex-mill.
Dutch/EU rape oil finished 3.50 to two guilders lower with
no business reported.
Crude palm oil cif Europe closed $5 to $10 down after Dec
traded at $567.50 and Apr/Jun at $570 a tonne cif.
Palm products finished $5 to $7.50 a tonne down.
Traders said the palm oil market had overreacted to the news
that Indonesia was seeking to limit palm oil export during 1998.
"The latest Malaysian output, stocks and export data show
that there is enough slack in the market to make up for any
shortfall in Indonesian exports," said one trader.
Coconut oil closed $7.50 up to $2.50 down while palmkernel
oil was $5 lower in a neglected market.
