European vegetable oil close firm in light trade
LONDON, Nov 14 (Reuters) - European vegetable oil prices
closed firm on Friday, but only light trading was reported
during the afternoon.
Palm oil was quiet during the afternoon with most players
sidelined ahead of the release at 0430 GMT on Saturday of the
Malaysian Palm Oil Registration and Licensing Authority's
(PORLA) data for October.
Traders said the latest estimate by Malaysian private
forecaster Ivan Wong, released on Friday, should have been
bearish for palm oil, but Thursday's news of an export quota on
Indonesian palm olein export overrode the Wong report.
Wong estimated local palm oil production in October at
922,000 tonnes, down one percent from September while
end-October stocks were projected at 1.005 million tonnes
against the PORLA's 877,704 tonnes at end-September.
Exports in October were estimated at 650,000 tonnes against
PORLA's 721,291 tonnes in September.
At the close of business crude palm oil cif Europe was $10
to $7.50 higher while products were $2.50 to $7.50 up.
Coconut oil closed $12.50 to $5 up after Feb/Mar traded at
$655 and $650 a tonne cif.
Palmkernel oil finished unchanged to $5 in a tradeless
market.
Soft oils closed firm despite lower Chicago, buoyed by tight
supplies and demand.
Dutch soy oil closed four to one guilder up after Dec traded
at 134 and 134.50 guilders, Jan at 130 and 131 and Feb/Apr at
123.50 and 124.00 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill.
Dutch/EU rape oil closed 3.50 to 2.50 guilders higher after
Jan fetched 133 guilders and Feb/Apr 123 and 124 guilders a 100
kilos fob ex-mill.
Traders said although the soft oil market had been active
prior to Chicago the actual tonnage changing hands was light.
