"The Malaysian ringgit is very weak against the dollar and we fully expect prices to surge on Monday," said one trader. A weak ringgit is seen by most players as good for Malaysian exports. Talk of Indonesia buying palm olein from Malaysia firmed palm oil prices during Friday morning. "Palm oil is very hot this morning because of the Indonesia buying," said one trader. Traders said that a Singapore based house had been active and they were believed to be buying for Indonesia. "These people are well known for buying on behalf of Indonesia," said another trader. European traders estimate that around 8,000 tonnes of olein was bought today, on top of 8,000 tonnes bought earlier in the week. Normally when Indonesia buys palm olein it has been selling crude palm oil to Malaysia, but traders said this is not happening this time. The weak ringgit against the dollar had also supported prices with traders reporting possible short covering by major players. "We have seen different major players in the market during the week which seems to point to some good export business," said a trader. However, by the afternoon business had fizzled out and traders had nothing fresh to report. A further decline in the dollar against the guilder and forecast of rain in the U.S. Midwest allowed soft oil sellers is lower prices, but buyers showed no interest. Coconut oil had a brief moment of glory during the afternoon with some light dealer trading report. At the close Dutch soy oil was two to one guilder lower while rape oil was 1.50 to two guilders down. Crude palm oil finished $5 up while products were $10 to $5 higher. Coconut oil closed $5 up after Oct/Nov and Nov/Dec traded at $580 a tonne cif. Palmkernel oil neglected and finished $5 to $7.50 higher.
