In the soft oils sector players were reluctant to take fresh positions while Chicago futures remained volatile. "It's always the same at this time of year -- when there is a weather market running in Chicago, people keep their heads down," said one trader. All the day's reported business in soft oils took place before the Chicago opening, with soyoil fetching 108 guilders for Aug and 103.50 for Nov/Jan. Rape oil traded at 104.50 guilders and Sep/Oct at 104. Closing sellers for soy were 0.50 to 1.50 guilders down while rape oil was 0.25 to 0.75 lower. Palm oil business was hit by local holidays in Malaysia and Indonesia with products quoted unchanged in Europe. On the Rotterdam cif market offers for crude palm oil were unchanged to $2.50 down. "We don't expect much to happen in palm today or on Friday because of the holiday, and the rest of the market is waiting to see what Chicago does next," said a trader.
