Soft oils sellers built on their early prices with the firm dollar pushing guilder-based soft oils higher during the afternoon. Traders said there was some concern over the USDA's report which put 62 percent of the soybean crop as good to excellent on Sunday against 66 percent the previous week. "Some people think there may have been damage to the soybean crop, but without the firm dollar the market would almost certainly have come off quite a bit," said one trader. Similar sentiments were expressed about the palm oil market where poor fundamentals kept pressure on prices. Asia traders said it was only the weakness of the ringgit against the dollar which was stopping the market from falling further. The weak ringgit against the dollar is seen as supportive for palm oil exports, which are mostly traded in dollars. In the lauric oil sector coconut oil prices came under increasing pressure from origin and by the close offers were as much as $22.50 down in active trading. "All the selling has come from origin with dealers buying," said one trader. At the close of coconut oil was $22.50 to $20 down after Jul/Aug traded at $575, Aug/Sep from $580 down to $572.50 and Sep/Oct at $580 and $575 a tonne. Oct/Nov and Nov/Dec fetched $575 a tonne cif.
