Sellers found themselves with little room to move, despite the lower Chicago close on Tuesday, with the dollar sitting between 2.1106 and 2.1300 guilders. However, they did succeed in attracting some buying interest in rape oil during the afternoon. "Buyers saw the prices come down and one or two jumped in," said one trader. Palm oil prices firmed up during the afternoon supported by the weakness of the Malaysian ringgit and talk of good exports during July. However, some traders believe that exports may not as good during August and September. "Malaysian exports are looking good for July, but Indonesia is going to be ultra-competitive during August and September and this could make a dent in Malaysian business," said one. Active trading in was seen in palm oil during the European morning, but the afternoon was quiet. Traders said buying by a major Indonesian player triggered the trade. "We don't know if it was short covering or for the local market, but has got one or two people worried" said one trader. In the lauric oil sector coconut oil was slightly higher while palmkernel oil eased in light trading. At the closed Dutch soy and rape oil was 0.50 guilders down after rape oil traded at 107.50 guilders for Sep/Oct, 108.25 for Nov/Jan and 109 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill for Feb/Apr. Crude palm oil closing offers were $10 to $7.50 up while products were $5 to $7.50 higher. Coconut oil closed $5 up after Oct/Nov traded at $560 while palmkernel oil was $5 down after Aug/Sep fetched $542.50, Sep/Oct $547.50 and Oct/Nov $550 and $552.50 a tonne cif.
