But volume was thin at an estimated 5,273 lots, and trading subdued with the London cocoa futures market closed for a holiday. The LCE will resume trading on Tuesday. The benchmark December cocoa settled down $9 a tonne, at $1,382, its lowest level in three weeks, and just above the session low of $1,380. December's high was $1,390. Spot September fell $21, to $1,329, while the back months closed $2 to $13 lower. Dealers said steady scale-down trade buying stemmed losses and held prices to a narrow range. Technically, traders pegged December support at $1,377, with the subsequent level seen at $1,360. Resistance was seen at $1,405-$1,408, a gap on the charts formed on Friday. Traders still await fresh crop assessments from the Ivory Coast for fundamental direction. Talk that revised pod counts for the 1996/97 havest would come in at around 900,000 tonne, a bit higher than earlier estimates, may have weighed on prices, traders said.
