Spot September, which goes into delivery period on August 18, fell $14 a tonne on the day, to $1,485. Active December closed $11 lower, at $1,516, after ranging from $1,532 to $1,511. The back months finished down $9 to $10. Dealers said trading of September/December switches accounted for a good portion of the 8,582-lot volume today. September/December ended at $31 compared with $28 at the close on Wednesday. Cocoa prices firmed in the morning, but dealers said trade selling toward the highs capped gains and prevented December from breaching Wednesday's high of $1,532, prompting a round of local selling. Traders said the market is likely to trade sideways until September enters notice period. "We're waiting for the rollover to end to get an idea where the market wants to go," said one trader. On the charts, traders said December would face resistance at $1,528-$1,532, with the next level seen at $1,543-$1,545. On the downside, support was seen near $1,510 and $1,500.
