organise a warning strike on Wednesday from 9am to 1pm, reporters
were told on Tuesday. #L#
The two unions, gathering 3,500 of the total 16,000 employees, will
cease maintenance jobs, a union president, Ivan Forgac, said.
Only 20 percent of passenger trains will be running tomorrow, while
all freight traffic will be stopped, except for emergencies, he
said.
"If the management tries to start the trains before previously
having them checked, it will bare the consequences for possible
accidents," unionists said.
Besides the strike, unionists will organise public rallies in
Zagreb, Osijek, Vinkovci, Varazdin, Rijeka and Split at 11am.
The unions are requesting that the management respect an agreement
by which the collective agreement is to be applied as of May 1 and an
adequate price of an hour's work be set for maintenance jobs. They
are also asking that salaries increase by 10 percent because of
difficult working conditions.
