The protocol on police cooperation is based on a joint document
between UNMIK and the Co-ordination Centre of November last year,
said the Centre's head and Serbian Vice-Premier Nebojsa Covic. He
said the protocol envisaged the establishment of a joint police
committee which should increase co-ordination and cooperation in
the prevention of crime, particularly drug and women smuggling,
money laundering, and weapons smuggling, as well as cooperation in
the fight against terrorism which destabilises the region.
UNMIK head Michael Steiner said that the agreement on rail
transport was very important because it re-opened rail traffic
between Belgrade and Skoplje via Pristina. Steiner said the
document was a sign of normalisation which was the aim of all and
added that it would contribute to improving cooperation between
Belgrade and Pristina.
