The lower ringgit combined with bullish Malaysian palm oil exports during November had been expected to push palm oil futures higher, but by the close the KLCE had not matched traders expectations and many players lost interest. "The export figures were at the top end of the estimates which with the lower ringgit should have been bullish, but no real interest developed," said one trader. Malaysian cargo surveyor Caleb Brett put local November bulk palm oil exports at 657,476 tonnes against its estimate of 678,951 tonnes for October. The Palm Oil Registration and Licensing Authority put official October exports at 618,989 tonnes. Later, cargo surveyor Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS) Malaysia Sdn Bhd said on Monday it estimated Malaysia's palm oil exports for November at 650,635 tonnes against 700,351 tonnes for October. The other main feature was the Indonesian export quotas. Traders said the market remained nervous owing to the uncertainties created by news of the export limits, but now they had seen a breakdown of the quotas by month, material and company they had something to work on. "It looks as if there could be a bottleneck in January, but apart from that things do not look that bad," said one trader. "A heck of a lot palm oil was shipped during November and providing people can store it or arrange swaps the effect on the market should be minimal," said another. At the close crude palm oil was unchanged to $2.50 down while RBD palm oil was $7.50 to $2.50 lower and olein $10 to $2.50 below Friday's close. "Palm oil is drifting back down towards where it was before the Indonesian quota story hit the market," said a trader. Coconut oil closed $2.50 to $5 down after Feb/Mar traded at $615 and $617.50 a tonne cif while palmkernel oil was $2.50 to $5 lower. Good coconut oil supplies at origin are limiting the upside of the market while consumers support around $600 a tonne is putting a floor under the market. However, traders expect prices to rise in the New Year when the El Nino effect kicks in. On the soft oil market a firmer dollar rate supported a tradeless market with soy oil four to one guilder up and rape oil 1.50 guilders higher to 0.50 guilders lower.
