Sterling strengthened after the announcement, making imported wool cheaper to buy, but more importantly makes export sales even more difficult, they added. Shortening order books and new business emerging only slowly, if at all, coupled with retailers taking cheaper supplies from abroad only added to market anxieties. Weaker Asian currencies were seen as only adding to the import threat. --London Newsroom +44 171 542 8074 071131 MET nov 97
