Western European trade interests were the principal operators in both countries, while strong competition was also evident at this week's sale of Scottish wool in Bradford. Combing activity remained busy among local mills, several of whom were working flat out, especially those with plenty of commission work. Mills are seeing good business and some reported a long-awaited increase in export orders following the slight easing of sterling, brokers said. Prices for wool tops have tended to edge higher, or at least hold steady. 151057 MET oct 97
