Bradford wool firmer but trading difficult
LONDON, Oct 30 (Reuters) - Higher prices paid for Australian
wool at origin coupled with currency influences helped to firm
prices on the Bradford wool market, traders said.
Turmoil in stock markets, and the currency factor, however,
continued to make trading very difficult, they said.
Most firms were still mainly interested in seeing that
orders come in to keep up activity, and not all firms are
managing to operate at full capacity.
Traders also pointed to cut price import competition which
was partly due to the effect of stronger sterling against
European currencies.
This could be a longer term problem now that UK entry into
EMU is not expected for more than five years.
