Tumbling dollar halts European veg oil trade
LONDON, Aug 15 (Reuter) - The tumbling dollar during Friday
afternoon wiped out what little interest there had been on the
European vegetable oil market.
Business had been hampered by the Assumption Day holiday in
many European countries.
Earlier market friendly data and falling Asian currencies
had boosted prices, but business had never really got off the
ground.
The Malaysian Palm Oil Registration and Licensing Authority
(PORLA) pegged Malaysian palm oil output at 833,159 tonnes
during July against 791,426 in June, a rise of 5.27 percent.
Exports were 715,906 tonnes against 622,210 tonnes in June,
while stocks fell from 789,806 tonnes at end-June to 769,275
tonnes at end-July, a fall of 2.6 percent.
The Malaysian Oil Palm Growers' Council released data before
PORLA and put output at 828,000 tonnes in July, 5.1 percent from
June.
In its estimate for the first 15 days of August cargo
surveyor SGS put local palm oil exports at 312,757 tonnes
against 307,536 during the same period in June.
At the close soy oil had shed one guilder on the back of the
falling dollar to finish with gains of one to 0.50 guilders on
the day.
Rape oil was affected in a similar manor with sellers ending
the day with overall gains of 0.25 to one guilder in tradeless
markets.
Palm oil posted further small gains during the afternoon
mainly on the weakness of the Malaysian ringgit and finish with
crude palm oil sellers $5 up while products were $2.50 higher.
Lauirc oils closed with coconut oil unchanged to $2.50 down
while palmkernel oil was $5 up to unchanged.
