SARAJEVO, Aug 5 (Hina) - Bosnian Serb forces seized heavy weapons
guarded by Ukrainian U.N. peacekeepers at a U.N. weapons collection
site in the Sarajevo suburb of Ilidza, at 3.50 a.m. today.
U.N. spokesman Rob Annink told reporters in Sarajevo that the
Serbs had taken a T-55 tank and three armoured vehicles.
Annink said that U.N. Chief-of-Staff General Van Baal had
talked to Serb military commanders at 7.15 this morning and
demanded that the weapons be returned immediately. Van Baal warned
that UNPROFOR would use all means available to punish the violation
of the weapons exclusion zone surrounding the Bosnian capital.
Annink specified that air strikes against Bosnian Serb
positions were possible.
Shortly before 11 a.m. today, French U.N. peacekeepers sighted
a Serb tank and an armoured vehicle moving from Vogosca to
Semizovac north of Sarajevo. The French could not check whether the
weapons had been stolen from the Ilidza storage site or whether it
was another case of the violation of Sarajevo's exclusion zone
because Serb forces would not allow them to get close enough.
Annink said NATO had detailed information on the incidents and
was closely monitoring the situation.
