INCIDENT AT U.N. CHECKPOINT NEAR KARLOVAC

KARLOVAC, Aug 2 (Hina) - An incident occurred at a UN crossing point in the Karlovac suburb of Mostanje at 5.30 p.m. on Tuesday when two tank trucks of the Ukrainian UN Battalion blocked the road and a third truck rushed throught the checkpoint and nearly ran down Croatian police on duty. The UN peacekeepers held up an Interparliamentary Union mission visiting Karlovac County and denied them passage into the suburb of Turanj although they had all necessary documents. Members of the mission said unofficially they would inform their organization about the incident. The Mostanje checkpoint was reopened to UN vehicles three days ago after having been blocked for weeks by displaced persons. (hina) mm vm 021948 MET aug 94
