SARINIC MEETS OWEN AND STOLTENBERG

ZAGREB, Jan 10 (Hina) - The Croatian Government chief negotiator for talks with rebel Serbs, Hrvoje Sarinic, today met the Co- Chairmen of the International Conference on the Former Yugoslavia (ICFY), Lord David Owen and Thorvald Stoltenberg. They discussed the implementation of the December 2 economic agreement with rebel Serbs from UNPA. "I told them that we can no longer make any concessions," Sarinic said after the talks. "We have signed a document which must be implemented," he said. "Until now we have be reasonable and flexible and we don't intend to go further." Sarinic explained that Croatia would not extend the UNPROFOR mandate on "superficial and last minute results". "The problem is too deep and we won't settle for cosmetic efforts," Sarinic said. Asked if there was anything implemented from what was agreed on, he said some progress was made. "Yasushi Akashi has just confirmed to me that there were no problems on the Zagreb-Lipovac highway and we will check it," Sarinic said. "We have an expert group who should have already confirmed the situation on the Zagreb-Okucani-Mirkovci rail line up to the Serb border and the Zagreb-Split rail line. But, the poor weather and snow presented real problems, because the rail lines should be demined." "We know that Serbs need oil and they'll get it when we form a commercial company (which would distribute the oil in UNPA) as we agreed and in line with the agreement's provisions. "Regarding electricity, HEP (Croatian Electric Power Industry) officials are prepared to head to the terrain. With regards to generator poles (to be installed in a power plant in occupied Croatian territory) they're at the Koncar plant in Zagreb. Nine of them can be packaged, while the tenth will need two to three weeks for repairs. "We are ready to send the generator poles to the Obrovac power plant, as soon as the other side fulfills its obligations," he said adding that Croatia would not abandon the implementation of all the provisions of the agreement. He said that negotiations were likely to resume at the UN base at Zagreb airport. The international mediators Owen and Stoltenberg were to travel to Belgrade this evening to meet rebel Croatian Serb leader, Borislav Mikelic.
