SIBENIK, Jan 10 (Hina) - UN military observers positioned in the
Croatian coastal town of Sibenik, yesterday refused to secure a
tour of Guduca brook, UNPA south, as long as the Croatian flag
continued to wave on the pole of a Croatian inspection boat.
The UN observers said the Croatian flag could provoke rebel
Serbs in UNPA south, ecology advisor for Sibenik municipality
Zivana Belak-Lambasa said today.
The representatives of the Sibenik municipality and Sibenik
coastal guards refused to take down the flag therefore the tour
inspection was postponed.
Sibenik officials agreed with UNPROFOR headquarters in Zagreb,
that from January 3 Guduca brook be inspected daily because of the
possible appearance of oil that last month leaked out of UNPROFOR
tank near Bribirske Mostine, UNPA south. But since the flag
incident yesterday UNPROFOR officials have stopped the inspections.
Sibenik municipality representatives asked UN officials to
send a formal request to have the Croatian flag taken down from the
inspection boat so they could make an official protest.
The UN officials have not yet responded to the request, Belak-
Lambusa said.
