PODRUTE, Jan 7 (Hina) - A wreathlaying ceremony was held today at
Podrute in north-western Croatia, in commemoration of the death of
EU monitors on Jan 7 three years ago.
Five EU monitors, four Italians and one Frenchman, were killed
when their helicopter was downed by a Yugoslav army jet during a
flight from Hungary to Zagreb.
The ceremony was attended by family members, Croatian
Government and EU Monitor Mission representatives, French and
Belgian ambassadors and local authorities.
Minister in the Croatian Government Ivan Majdak thanked the
five monitors' families and all Mission members whose truthful
testimonies had contributed to Croatia becoming a free and
internationally recognised state.
EU Monitor Mission Chief Albert Turot held a commemorative
speech, after which a memorial service was held at the Madarevo
parish church.
