After conferring the newly surfaced situation, it has been
agreed that Italy, currently in EU chair, and Croatia would jointly
propose a way to find a solution acceptable for both sides.
The proposal would follow the consultations Mrs. Agnelli will
have with Ambassador Klaus Metcher on Saturday.
President Tudjman has announced to Agnelli that he would, in
concordance with request by Bosnian Federation President Kresimir
Zubak, deploy 100 Croatian police officers on Saturday, to assist
the European Administration in enforcing law and order.
President expressed understanding for western Mostar citizens'
disapproval of the Koschnick's decision, itself in violation of the
Federation's Constitution, and of Dayton and Washington accords.
Also were condemned the incidents which had taken place during the
Mostar citizens' protest and which would certainly not facilitate
the realization of all agreements between Croats and Bosniacs in
the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina, which is not only the
interest of Croatian people in Bosnia but also of the Republic of
Croatia.
Besides Minister Agnelli the talks were attended by Italian
Ambassador to Croatia Paolo Pensa, a permanent secretary with the
Italian Foreign Ministry Boris Biancheri Chiappori, a spokesman for
the Ministry Gabrielle Menegatti and deputy director for political
affairs Benedetto Amari.
The Croatian side was represented by President Tudjman's
chief-of-staff Ivo Sanader, first aide to Foreign Minister Ivan
Simonovic and another aide to the Minister, Hidajet Biscevic, the
statement said.
