Minister Cotti was interested in President Tudjman's views as
regards the reintegration of the Croatian Danubian area, the role
of the international community on the Prevlaka peninsula and the
situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Croatia consistently supported the peaceful reintegration of
the Croatian Danubian area, for which the international community
had promised that it would really be peacefully reintegrated,
President Tudjman said, stressing that the OSCE should have a more
active role in the process.
There were no problems as regards the issue of the Prevlaka
peninsula, Tudjman said, adding that Croatia was ready to
demilitarise the peninsula because of the need for the
normalisation of Croat-Serb relations. In that respect, Croatia
would welcome the replacement of the U.N. mandate with an OSCE
mandate, Tudjman said.
The biggest problem in Bosnia-Herzegovina was the
establishment of main institutions of authority, both in the
Federation and the Republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Tudjman said.
Another difficult problem was the completion of the
establishment of the system of cantons in line with the Dayton
agreement, he added.
Minister Cotti thanked President Tudjman for his contribution
and the contribution of his country to the establishment of the new
international order in this part of Europe.
The Swiss delegation also included the Swiss Ambassador to
Croatia, Petar A. Troendle, the head of the Swiss mission in the
OSCE, Benedikt von Tscharner and the head of the OSCE Office in the
Swiss Foreign Ministry, Raymund Kunz.
The talks were also attended by the head of the Presidential
Office, Ivo Sanader, the first aide to the Croatian Foreign
Minister, Ivan Simonovic, Croatian Ambassador in the OSCE, Darko
Bekic and Croatian Ambassador to Switzerland, Zdenko Skrabalo, the
statement said.
