THE "VUKOVAR CROSS" GOES TO ROME

( Editorial: --> 5196 ) ZAGREB, Oct 2 (Hina) - The "Vukovar Cross" with the images of 14 stations of the Way of the Cross and the Resurrection, a gift from the State Committee for Welcoming the Holy Father, will be transported to the Vatican Palace. The three-metre tall cherry-wood cross was exhibited for the first time on Friday night, in front of the Zagreb Cathedral, near the site where the Pope addressed the public. After the Holy Father entered the Cathedral, the cross was brought in as well. The World Centre "The Miracle of Croatian Naive Art" encouraged and conducted the construction of the cross, which is the work of many Croatian naive artists. At the foot of the cross there is an inscription "The Vukovar Cross". A Croatian delegation, led by State Committee for Welcoming the Holy Father president Jure Radic, will take the cross to the Vatican, as a sign of gratitude for everything Pope John Paul II has done for the Croatian people and state.
