VUKOVAR, Sept 19 (Hina) - Osijek's Zdenko Blum, participant in the
Homeland war, on Saturday set off on foot from Vukovar in eastern
Slavonia towards the shrine of Marija Bistrica near Zagreb.
Blum is carrying a 120cm-long wooden cross in memory of all killed
Vukovar residents.
His walk will last 14 days and include 14 stops, symbolising the 14
Stations of the Cross.
"I made a promise in 1991 to make that walk through the free
Croatia", said Blum adding that his attempt was an expression of his
respect for Pope John Paul II, who is to visit Croatia for the second
time in October.
Blum should arrive in Marija Bistrica on the day the Pope beatifies
Cardinal Alojzije Stepinac.
