POLICE REPRESENTATIVE COMMENTS ON LATEST DEVELOPMENTS IN KOSOVO

( Editorial: --> 1130 ) PRISTINA, June 14 (Hina) - The security situation in Kosovo is still complicated, deputy lieutenant Novica Zdravkovic of the Serbian police said in Pristina on Sunday. Individual attacks of "Albanian terrorists on citizens, facilities and police officers and Yugoslav army members during their regular activities have continued," Zdravkovic told a press conference. Early on Sunday morning, a group of terrorists launched an attack on a police unit in Rakovina, Djakovica municipality, using automatic rifles, snipers, mortars and rocket launchers, he said. One police officer was killed and another was severely wounded in the attack. Police have dispersed the group and are searching for other perpetrators, Zdravkovic added. Another attack was carried out from direction of Drenovac (Decani municipality) on a police unit securing the Decani-Djakovica road. One police officer was killed and another was seriously wounded in the attack. An action aimed at dispersing the attackers is under way, Zdravkovic said. He accused the neighbouring Albania of allowing the training and equipping of Albanian terrorists on its territory. Authorised bodies which are securing the state border between Yugoslavia and Albania continue to successfully cut routes used by armed Albanian terrorist groups and prevent their illegal entry into Yugoslavia, Zdravkovic said. He added that Albanian refugees who fled Kosovo to Albania were pressured into fleeing by Albanian terrorists, adding they could return to their homes. Twenty-one Serbian police officers were killed, 59 were wounded and four were kidnapped in Kosovo this year, Zdravkovic said. (hina) rml 141636 MET jun 98
