PRISTINA, Aug 29 (Hina) - The newly-appointed US Ambassador at the
United Nations, Richard Holbrooke, who arrived in Kosovo for a two-
day visit on Saturday, visited a mass grave site in Qikatova, a
village in the area of Drenica, yesterday afternoon.
The grave, one of almost 400 mass graves discovered so far in the
southern Yugoslav province, contained more than 130 bodies.
Holbrooke told reporters he was visiting Kosovo at the request of US
Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
As the US official is visiting Kosovo, attacks by Kosovo Albanians
against local Serbs are continuing. The Albanians are taking
revenge on the Serbs for the 18-month-long repression campaign of
the Serbian regime which claimed the lives of at least 10,000 people
and forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes.
The distrust between Kosovo's ethnic communities has recently
resulted in a one-week closure of a road leading to Orahovac by
Kosovo Albanians, who want to prevent Russian KFOR troops from
taking over control of the town from their Norwegian colleagues.
During his visit to the region, which will last several days,
Holbrooke will also visit Macedonia, Albania and Bosnia-
Herzegovina.
