HOMELAND WAR SOLDIERS TO STAGE PROTEST IN SPLIT WEDNESDAY

SPLIT WEDNESDAY SPLIT, May 8 (Hina) - Croatian Homeland War soldiers of Split-Dalmatia County will stage a peaceful protest in Split at 17:00 hours Wednesday, under the organisation of the "Centre for the Defence of the Dignity of the Homeland War", founded by the Coordination of associations of Homeland War participants. The main reason for the protest was the soldiers' dissatisfaction with the attitude of the current authorities in Croatia towards the values of the Homeland war, its participants and victims, the Centre's leaders told a news conference Tuesday. Alen Basic stressed the regime-supporting media were carrying out a campaign against the Homeland War. Crimes of the Croatian army were being fabricated, Croatian officers accused, and the terrain prepared for extraditions to the international war crimes tribunal. SPLIT, May 8 (Hina) - Croatian Homeland War soldiers of Split- Dalmatia County will stage a peaceful protest in Split at 17:00 hours Wednesday, under the organisation of the "Centre for the Defence of the Dignity of the Homeland War", founded by the Coordination of associations of Homeland War participants. Moreover, the authorities are ensuring the return of criminals and stimulating an anti-Croat atmosphere, even resurrecting Tito, Yugoslavia, Communism, Luka Podrig said. The anniversary of the "Flash" military and police operation is not being marked, nor is the mass killing in Borovo Selo, but the president of the state is greeting so-called Croatian anti- fascists with "hello comrades", he stressed. We believe that after this protest someone will finally begin talking with us, that flats will continue to be constructed for victims of the war, that associations will be financed from the budget and that relations will change. If this should not happen, the soldiers will not refrain from more serious ways of fighting for their goals, the representatives said. Croatia is not represented by "a bunch of rigid leftists, regime mercenaries nor media prostitutes, but by Croatian defenders, workers and people," the Centre representatives said. The organisers have guaranteed the protest would pass peacefully. The rally will be secured by their own security forces and police with whom exceptionally good cooperation has been established, they said. (hina) lml jn
