The Union's Executive Committee on Thursday called on journalists
to stop working five minutes (at five to noon) next Wednesday to
show that accumulated problems in journalism have not been solved.
During the five-minute work stoppage an Appeal to the public,
authorities and colleagues reporters should be read in all
editorial offices.
Emphasis is given on necessity to start solving ownership relations
and financial burden that can lead to the discontinuation of
publishing of some most respectable Croatian newspapers such as
"Vjesnik" and "Slobodna Dalmacija" or massive layoffs of full-time
employees and part-time reporters in the Croatian Radio Television
(HRT) or the news agency HINA.
The Union will announce the Appeal in the May Day issues of all
Croatian dailies.
