ZAGREB ZAGREB, May 5 (Hina) - Several dozen Romanies (Gypsies) held a peaceful protest in Zagreb on Friday, expressing bitterness for having been attacked this week by a group of "young men with cropped hair". The Romanies told
reporters a group of young men with bats attacked them on Wednesday and Thursday while they were collecting waste. President of the Association of Romanies of Croatia, Nusret Seferovic, said police had responded to a report, but had not protected the Romanies. He added he had on Thursday written to Croatian President Stipe Mesic, Prime Minister Ivica Racan and Interior Minister Sime Lucin about the incident. Unless they respond and protect us by Tuesday, Zagreb's Romanies are prepared to organise a public protest on Wednesday, Seferovic announced.(hina) lml mm
