"It is necessary to adopt laws which will protect common well-being
and prevent corruption, which is the most important problem in our
society, and which the most responsible ones are doing nothing to
fight," Bozanic said at today's Christmas news conference.
Asked if a recent meeting between Croatian President Stjepan Mesic
and the Holy See's Secretary-General, Angelo Sodano, included
discussions about the Vatican's assistance to Croatia regarding
its admission to the European Union, Bozanic said he had not
attended any meeting between a state delegation and the Holy See
officials.
Asked about the attitude of the authorities to the Homeland War and
division of the society to the left and the right, Bozanic said that
with regard to some issues people in Croatia were burdened with the
past too much and that old topics were imposed on them time and
again, preventing them from dealing with current issues which were
crucial for their lives.
Commenting on statements about the Pope's third visit to Croatia,
which is to take place next year, Bozanic said that a programme of
the Pope's visit to Rijeka, Osijek, Dubrovnik and Zadar was being
prepared.
