He said his country would do everything to achieve standards valid
in the world and to be as soon as possible recognised as a member of
the great European family.
The Croatian head of state thanked the Croatian Papal Institute for
everything it had done for the Croatian faithful.
The chancellor of the institute, Msgr. Jure Bogdan, said Mesic
visited the institute at the time when it was celebrating the 550th
anniversary of its establishment.
"I welcome you today, in the heart of the oldest Croatian church
institution outside the homeland. We believe that 550 years in the
Diaspora is a nice series of years of which many would be proud," he
added.
Msgr. Bogdan presented Mesic with a collection of works on
centuries-long activities of this institution, and wished best to
him and the people in Croatia for Christmas and New Year.
