The government said in the statement that Separovic inspected
documents in the Defence and Interior Ministries.
"In regard to the section of the request that relates to accessing
documentation and the availability of documents that may exist in
the Office for Cooperation with the Hague-based Tribunal,
Separovic was informed that the Office for Cooperation does not
posses the documents he requested nor does it have any knowledge
about any of the questions ICTY investigators may pose. He was
therefore advised to directly contact the ICTY Prosecution," the
government's statement said.
The Office for Cooperation with the ICTY showed complete
cooperation efforts invested in securing successful defence for
Mladen Markac, the government believes. In its statement, the
government reminded that a representatives of the Office for
Cooperation came to the ICTY Prosecutor's office in Zagreb
following a request by defence attorney Separovic to be present
during the questioning, however, he was not allowed to do so as was
usually the practice. The government said that it will urgently
request the ICTY Chief Prosecution to explain its actions.
"The Office for Cooperation will continue to ensure Mladen Markac's
defence attorney as well as any attorney representing ICTY
indictees, any assistance required within its jurisdiction," the
statement concluded.
