ZAGREB, Dec 10 (Hina) - Retired Croatian general Mladen Markac on
Tuesday answered questions by investigators of the International
Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) without the
presence of government officials and in his capacity as a suspect,
however, the contents of a possible indictment against him are
still not known, Markac's attorney Miroslav Separovic said in

"So far there are no indications that General Markac is a suspect,
however, they did say that they would discuss the grave violations
of international humanitarian law committed during and after the
Storm, Flash and Medak Pocket military actions, and that in that
context General Markac is one of the suspects," Separovic said.
The Hague investigators commenced the interview with questions
about concrete military operations.
"We spoke about General Markac, his profile, his career in the
police, promotion, the organisation of special police units... we
are slowly moving towards the Medak Pocket, which will probably be
discussed in detail tomorrow," Separovic said.
Separovic submitted two documents to the Hague investigators.
One, a report by the Constitutional Court, "clearly notes that the
so-called Republika Srpska Krajina was an illegal and
unconstitutional entity and that Croatia had a legitimate right to
liberate its temporarily occupied territory", he said.
The second document was a law adopted by the RSK.
"It is an excerpt from the Defence Law of the so-called RSK which
states that any armed citizen who with arms or in some other way
participated in resistance to the enemy is considered a member of
the RSK army. We submitted this document to offer some insight into
what we wish to say in our defence and to prevent bringing the
legitimacy of the operation into question," Markac's attorney
said.
The three-day questioning will continue on Wednesday morning.
