ZAGREB, Dec 8 (Hina) - Croatia is ranked 52nd in terms of global

2003, which has been drawn up by the World Economic Forum and

The report was presented in Zagreb on Tuesday by members of
Croatia's National Competitiveness Council (NVK), whose
president, Zeljko Covic, said that not one social sector - the
business community, the state authorities, the education system,
and trade unions - were amnestied from the need to carry out
changes.
Only Bulgaria and Romania among the countries in transition are
ranked lower than Croatia, which has been included in the report for
the first time.
Croatian businessmen are particularly pessimistic regarding
potential growth in 2003 and their stand towards the policy of
subsidising.
On the other hand, they are relatively optimistic
concerning the transparent tax system, the simpler procedure to get
a loan, which field places Croatia at the top of the list, and
stagnation in terms of bribery and corruption.
The report's results will provide the starting point for the NVK in
drawing up, by April next year, a proposal as to how increase
Croatia's competitiveness.
