ZAGREB, Dec 4 (Hina) - The Croatian government and unions of
employees in state-run companies on Wednesday agreed on the
establishment of a joint commission for the sale of seven percent of
shares of Croatian Telekom (HT). #L#
The commission should determine the price, discount and other
conditions for the sale of the said shares to current and former
workers in Croatian Telekom and Croatian Post (HP).
After his meeting with unionists, Economy Minister Ljubo Jurcic
said he believed that they would reach agreement, but the
government had a final say in the matter.
The unionists insist on 20 percent of the basic discount and
additional one percent per year of service, so that the maximum
discount price could reach 60 percent.
The government has already offered the basic 15 percent basic
discount and 0.25 percent in addition for every year of employment
in the said companies. In this case, the maximum discount will reach
25 percent.
Unionists complain that HT and HP workers would be in such case in a
worse position than other employees who were able to buy shares
pursuant to the 1991 Privatisation Law.
The commission should begin with its work in one week's time.
Present at today's meeting were also unions from INA (Oil Industry)
and HEP (Croatian Power Industry) as the conditions for the
purchase of the HT shares will also apply to purchase of shares from
these two companies.
