"I hope that we will be able to suggest a long-term solution for the
ironworks within ten days," Economy Minister Ljubo Jurcic said
after a meeting of the government's Social Partnership Office. He
added that the government would discuss the situation in the plant
on Thursday.
There is a possibility of starting up partial production before the
strategic partner takes up the company.
The president of the Croatian Unions Federation (HUS), Zdenko
Mucnjak, said that participants of the meeting had not mentioned
the ironworks' employees being laid off. Both he and the minister
hope that they will not be.
Mucnjak said that after tonight's meeting, there was no reason for
protests as the one held in Sisak last week.
The third late wage for October should be paid to employees of the
Sisak Ironworks and its company Caprag Overhaul by Friday. The
necessary funding for the salary will be provided through a loan of
the ironworks, participants of the meeting said.
The meeting was attended by economy and labour and social welfare
ministers, the ironworks' representatives, members of the
creditors' board, the Metal Industry Workers Union and the Croatian
Unions' Federation.
