UNMIB spokeswoman Kirsten Haupt said in Sarajevo on Tuesday that
all International Police Task Force (IPTF) members for whom it was
established were involved in any illegal activities would bear
consequences.
Eighteen IPTF members have so far been returned to their homes due
to various misdemeanours.
The Mission has no executive authority over them and it is up to
their governments to undertake further proceedings, including
prosecution, Haupt said.
She refused to comment on the fact that, for example, IPTF members
from the United States would not bear consequences because they
were protected by immunity as members of the UN, while US laws
guaranteed that they would not be prosecuted for something they had
done as members of the UN.
