The entire south-east of Europe is in transition from conflicts
towards peace, and the international community expects of
Croatia's leaders to continue building values so that the country
could become a fully engaged and integrated member of the European
family of countries, as it has been in the UN, the world
organisation's Secretary-General added.
Annan arrived in Zagreb on Wednesday, within his Balkan tour, about
a month before the completion of the UN mission on the peninsula of
Prevlaka, the last UN mission in Croatia.
The monument unveiled today was erected in memory of 288 UN staff
who lost their lives in missions in the former Yugoslavia.
Present at the ceremony was Croatia's President Stjepan Mesic who
is Annan's host.
