A Croatian delegation attending the Forum on Security and
Cooperation (FSC) organised by the OSCE, presented Croatia's
achievements in implementing the Ottawa Convention on Mines which
Croatia signed in March 1999.
The deputy chief of the International Security Department at the
Croatian Foreign Ministry, Vice Skracic, said that to date Croatia
had destroyed 198,585 mines of a total of 205,331 and in keeping
with Article 3 of the Convention, Croatia would retain 7,000
mines.
In accordance with the Ottawa Convention mine fields are being
clearly marked, a representative of the Croatian Mine Action
Centre, Mirko Ivanusic, said. He added that there were 35 companies
in Croatia involved with mine clearance, of which ten were foreign
and one was the Norwegian National Assistance non-governmental
organisation.
